Islami Bishwabidyalaya Balok High School was established on 1 January 1975 by Mazlum Jananeta Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani on 2.74 acres of vested property at Mouza Santosh. On the instruction of the then head of government, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, first recognition was granted from 1 January 1975 for two years, covering the humanities, science and agriculture branches, under memo 35/Tangail/1706 dated 19 February 1976.

In 1982 a Trust Board was formed by ordinance, and the movable and immovable property of the school and the other institutions on the campus was vested in it. In 1999 the then Prime Minister announced the establishment of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University on the Santosh campus, and in 2001 the Trust Board’s property passed to the university.

The school was later moved to the Shah Enayet Ullah Hostel campus by a memorandum of understanding, on 2.20 acres at Mouza Santosh. Under education board approval 35/Tangail/9167 dated 6 June 2013 co-education was introduced and the school was renamed Islami Bishwabidyalay High School, confirmed by the school inspector’s letter 15/Tangail/10245 dated 29 July 2013.

Under the school inspector’s letter 5971(2) dated 20 October 2009, the school is run by a special committee constituted under section 49 of regulation S.R.O. 99/Law/2009. The Vice-Chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University is therefore chairman of the school ex officio.
